What are the Skilled Trades?

In Ontario, the Skilled Trades refer to professional occupations that involve working with your hands and require specialized training. The skilled trades represent a large number of professions. Some examples include chefs, plumbers, electricians, construction workers, and motive power repairers. 

As a prospective immigrant to Ontario, you are advised to learn about  the skilled trades before immigrating. There are over 144 designated trades in Ontario. If you are interested in this sector, there is a trade for you.

CLASSIFICATIONS OF THE SKILLED TRADES

To help you better understand which trade best fits your abilities, the skilled trades have been categorized into four main sectors: Construction, Motive Power, Industrial, and Service . Each sector includes a number of skilled trades with their own job descriptions and classifications.
